Bursitis

The bursa is a small fluid-filled sac found throughout the body—there are more than 150 of them. It is located between bones, tendons, joints, and muscles, acting as a cushion to prevent friction between these structures. When the bursae become inflamed, they can cause pain. Bursitis refers to the inflammation of the bursa, typically caused by friction, injury, or bacterial infection.

Symptoms of Bursitis

Common symptoms of bursitis include joint swelling, local tenderness, pitting edema, slightly elevated skin temperature, and redness. In some cases, the patient may also experience a persistent high fever.
